Download the Official Windows 10 ISO or Upgrade to Windows 10

Downloading Windows 10 from unofficial websites is not recommended. Modified ISO files may contain malware, unwanted software, or corrupted installation files. To ensure safety and authenticity, always download Windows 10 directly from Microsoft.

This guide explains all the official methods available to:

  • Download the Windows 10 ISO file
  • Create installation media
  • Upgrade your PC to Windows 10

Method 1: Download Windows 10 Using Media Creation Tool (Official Method)

Microsoft provides a dedicated Windows 10 Media Creation Tool that allows you to download ISO files, create bootable USB drives, or upgrade your current PC.

Visit the official Windows 10 download page: https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows10

Click Download tool now under Create Windows 10 installation media.

Note: Microsoft now provides a single Media Creation Tool that works for both 32-bit and 64-bit systems.

Download Windows 10 ISO Using Media Creation Tool

  1. Open the Media Creation Tool
  2. Accept the license terms
  3. Select Create installation media (USB flash drive, DVD, or ISO file) for another PC
  4. Click Next

Choose:

  • Language
  • Edition
  • Architecture (64-bit is recommended for most systems)

Click Next, then select:

  • ISO file

Choose a save location and click Save.

The tool will begin downloading the Windows 10 ISO file (approximately 4–5 GB).

Once complete, you can:

  • Create a bootable USB drive
  • Burn the ISO to a DVD
  • Perform a clean installation
  • Repair an existing Windows installation

Method 2: Upgrade This PC to Windows 10

The Media Creation Tool also allows you to upgrade your current PC without losing files.

Steps:

  1. Open the Media Creation Tool
  2. Select Upgrade this PC now
  3. The tool will download Windows 10
  4. Accept the license terms
  5. Choose what to keep:
    • Personal files and apps
    • Personal files only
    • Nothing (clean installation)

Your PC will restart several times during the upgrade process.

Always back up important files before upgrading.

Method 3: Download Windows 10 ISO Without Media Creation Tool (Direct ISO Method)

Unlike Windows 11, the Windows 10 download page does not show direct ISO download links when accessed from a Windows PC. Instead, it forces the Media Creation Tool.

However, Microsoft still provides direct ISO downloads when the website is accessed from a non-Windows device (such as macOS).

You can simulate this using Google Chrome’s Developer Tools.

Steps to Get Direct ISO Download Link Using Chrome

  1. Open the official Windows 10 download page in Google Chrome
  2. Press F12 to open Developer Tools
  3. Click the three-dot menu (⋮) inside Developer Tools
  4. Go to More tools → Network conditions
  5. Under User agent, uncheck Use browser default
  6. From the dropdown, select Safari — Mac
  7. Refresh the page

After refreshing, you will now see:

Download Windows 10 Disk Image (ISO)

Select:

  • Windows 10 (multi-edition ISO)
  • Language
  • 32-bit or 64-bit version

The direct download link will be generated and will remain valid for 24 hours. Check the screenshot for reference.

Why This Works

Microsoft’s website detects your operating system.

  • If it detects Windows → It shows the Media Creation Tool
  • If it detects macOS or Linux → It shows direct ISO download links

By changing the user agent to Safari (Mac), you are simply requesting the macOS version of the page.

The ISO file still downloads directly from Microsoft’s official servers.

Important Notes

  • The Media Creation Tool does not reliably support resume. If interrupted, the download may restart from the beginning.
  • Direct ISO links expire after 24 hours.
  • Ensure your internet connection is stable before starting large downloads.
  • Always back up important files before upgrading or performing a clean installation.

Windows 10 ISO files should always be downloaded from Microsoft’s official website. Whether you use the Media Creation Tool for convenience or the Chrome Developer Tools method to access the direct ISO download, both approaches provide genuine installation files directly from Microsoft servers.

By using official tools and preparing your system properly, you can safely download, upgrade, or reinstall Windows 10 without relying on third-party sources.
