National Short Film Day

  • The birth of the motion picture industry is celebrated on National Short Film Day on December 28.

Ministry of Power, DRDO sign MoU for implementation of Early Warning System

  • The Ministry of Power and the Defense Research and Development Organization, DRDO, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MOU, to implement an Early Warning System for Vulnerable Hydro Projects and Power Stations.
  • It is to work jointly towards developing suitable mitigation measures against avalanches, landslides, glaciers, glacial lakes and other geo-hazards.

Union Government allotted Rs 2,700 for developing sewerage infrastructure in the Ganga basin

  • The Union government has approved projects worth around 2,700 crore rupees for developing sewerage infrastructure in the Ganga basin, and the approvals were given during the 6th meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG). Along with this afforestation programmes for the year, 2022-23 for Uttarakhand and Bihar were also approved at an estimated cost of 42.80 crore rupees.
  • The aim of the project is to create an enabling environment for climate-resilient and sustainable ecosystem management with a participatory community approach.

International Book Fair in Tamil Nadu

  • The 46th Chennai International Book Fair will be held from 6th January to 22nd January 2023 at Nandanam YMCA Grounds with 800 stalls.
  • Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K.Stalin will also inaugurate the exhibition.
  • The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu will present the Muthamil Scholar Kalaignar Karunanidhi Porkizhi Award for the year 2023, the Best Publishers Award and the Babasi Awards at the opening ceremony of the book fair.

The President of India inaugurated the ‘PRASAD’ project in Andhra Pradesh

  • President of India Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the ‘PRASAD’ project at the tourism facilitation centre in the pilgrim town of Srisailam in Andhra Pradesh on 26 December 2022.
  • The hill town will get a pilgrim complex, amenities centres at Hatakeswaram and Sikh Areswaram, renovation of the Pushkarini, aesthetic illumination at the temple, ATM and banking services etc with a total outlay of ₹48.03 crores under the Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASAD).

The 47th Tourism and Industry Fair will be held in Chennai

  • The tourism and Industry Expo at Chennai Theevu Tidal is scheduled to start on December 30, 2022, and is scheduled to run for 70 days.
  • In this exhibition, various halls including Government Department Halls, State Public Sector Institutions Performance Halls, Central Government Institutions, and Energy Department Halls are placed so that the public can easily learn about the government’s new projects and development works.

CEBR announced that India will become the third-largest economy by 2035

  • A British consultancy called the Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR), has announced that India will become the third-largest economy by 2035 and now India is in the fifth position.
  • CEBR, in its annual World Economic League Table, announced that over the next five years, India’s annual rate of GDP growth is expected to average 6.4 percent after which growth is expected to average 6.5 percent in the subsequent nine years.

Three Deputy Prime Ministers of Nepal have been appointed

  • Pushpa Kamal Dahal (a) Prasanda (68) was sworn in as the Prime Minister of Nepal on 27 December 2022 in a ceremony held at the President’s Palace of Nepal.
  • Sonda Bishnu Prasad Paudel of CPN-UML led by former Prime Minister Chama Oli, Sonda Narayan Srastha of CPN-Maoist Center led by Prasanda and Sonda Rabi Lamisane of Rashtriya Swatantra Party has been appointed as Deputy Prime Ministers in the new government.
    • Bishnu Prasad Paudel has been allotted the Finance Ministry, Narayan Srastha the Infrastructure and Transport Department and Lamisane Home affairs ministry.

The first case of “brain-eating amoeba,” has been reported in South Korea

  • The health authorities reported the first infection from Naegleria fowleri, or “brain-eating amoeba,” in South Korea on 26th December 2022.
  • Naegleria fowleri is an amoeba commonly found in warm freshwater lakes, rivers, canals and ponds worldwide.
  • The amoeba is inhaled through the nose and travels to the brain to destroy brain tissue.
    • A total of 381 Naegleria fowleri cases have been reported as of 2018 in the world including in the US, India and Thailand.

The Tamil Official Language Act was passed on the day

  • The State Government authorises the official language to carry out procedures in offices. The language spoken by most of the population in a state or country should be the official language.
  • Accordingly, on December 27, 1956, in Tamil Nadu, the “Tamil Official Language Act” was passed in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly to make Tamil the official language of Tamil Nadu.
