113th Birth anniversary of Homi Jehangir Bhabha

  • 113th Birth anniversary of Indian nuclear physicist Homi Jehangir Bhabha, also known as the father of the Indian nuclear program.
  • He was born on 30 October 1909 in Bombay, Bombay Presidency, British India (now Mumbai, Maharashtra, India).
  • His invaluable contributions to the field of science continue to inspire generations of young minds in the country. 
  • Homi J Bhabha was the founding director and professor of physics at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR).
  • Homi J Bhabha was also the founding director of the Atomic Energy Establishment, Trombay (AEET). It is now named the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre in his honour.
  • TIFR and AEET were the cornerstones of Indian development of nuclear weapons and Bhabha supervised both as director.
  • In 1942, Bhabha was awarded the Adams Prize and Padma Bhushan in 1954.
  • In 1951 and 1953–1956, Bhabha was also nominated for the Nobel Prize for Physics.

The world’s tallest Shiva statue inaugurated in Rajasthan

  • A 369-feet tall Shiva idol has been built at Nathdwara in the Rajsamand district of Rajasthan, This idol is named Visvas Swaroopam.
  • 3000 tonnes of iron and steel, and 2.5 lakh cubic tonnes of concrete and sand have been used during the construction of the statue, and it is designed with technology to withstand winds of up to 250 kmph.

Shri Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurates ‘Ayush Utsav’ in Kashmir

  • The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Ayush, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the Ayush Utsav at the Government Unani Medical College & Hospital (GUMC) in Ganderbal, Kashmir
  • With the government’s focus to enable traditional medicinal practices to supplement modern patient care, the Ayush Utsav was launched with the inauguration of a seminar titled ‘Bridging the Gaps in Healthcare: Ayush, a Promising Recourse’.

State Cabinet approves implementation of Common Civil Code in Gujarat

  • The Gujarat cabinet approved the formation of a committee to implement the Uniform Civil Code(UCC) in the state, said, minister Harsh Sanghvi.
  • Committee for Uniform Civil Code implementation in Gujarat is to be headed by a retired HC judge and will have three to four members, said Union minister Parshottam Rupala.

NASA space mission to probe metal-rich asteroid now set for Oct 2023

  • The U.S. space agency has announced that it will launch its Psyche mission, aimed at investigating the asteroid Psyche, in October 2023.
  • With the launch of the mission in October 2023 launch date, the Psyche spacecraft will arrive at the asteroid in August 2029.

The central government has taken steps to extend the sugar export ban by one year

  • The central government has announced that the export of sugar in the country has been banned from October 2022 to till the end of October 2023.
  • India is one of the largest sugar-producing countries in the world and due to the domestic demand in our country, the ban on exports is being Continued, said Sudhanshu Pandey, Secretary, the Department of Food and Public Distribution.

IMT TRILAT- Trilateral Exercise

  • The first edition of the joint maritime exercise of Indian, Mozambican and Tanzanian navies began in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on 27 October 22.
  • The Indian Navy is represented by a guided missile frigate, INS Targash, Sedak helicopter and MARCOS (Special Forces).
  • The exercise has three broad objectives:
    1. capability development to address common threats through training and sharing of best practices,
    2. Enhancing interoperability
    3. strengthening maritime cooperation.

A new record was achieved in coal production

  • According to Care Edge Research Institute India has set a new record in coal production.
  • Presently, coal production has reached a new record of 38.2 core tones. This is a growth of 21 percent. Coal India plays a large role in this production.

The central government has decided to set up a grievance appellate committee to resolve the complaints of social media users

  • Complaints from social media users including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube should be registered within 24 hours.
  • The central government has directed that the complaint should be resolved within 15 days.
  • The central government has issued a notification regarding the formation of grievance committees to conduct investigations based on the Information Technology Act.
