World Children’s Day 2022

  • World Children’s Day is celebrated on November 20 annually.
  • The day aims to promote international togetherness and awareness among children and improve their welfare.
  • International Children’s Day’s theme is, “Inclusion, for every child”.
  • This theme means that every child belonging to any society, community or nationality is entitled to equal rights.

India Launches Official Website And Theme of SCO 2023

  • India has launched the official website of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) as it will host the next SCO summit as a chairman of the organisation in 2023.
  • The website highlights the events that will be undertaken under the chairmanship of India next year.
  • The theme of the event is “For a SECURE SCO”. Prime Minister Narendra Modi floated the concept of SECURE at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in China in 2018.

  • Narendra Modi released the traditional book of Tamils, Thirukkural, which has been translated into 13 languages, at the Kashi-Tamil Sangam function.
  • To re-discover and celebrate the age-old connection between Kashi and Tamil Nadu, the ‘Kashi-Tamil Sangam’ events have been organized in Varanasi from 17th November to 16th December.

World record by sorting 3500 food bags at Chennai airport

  • Chennai Meenambakkam Airport, along with Airport Authority, Mylapore Round Table India, Mylapore Ladies Circle, and Women’s Voluntary Organization are organizing an awareness week.
  • So far the world record is 2,800 food bags. To break that record, it was awarded a certificate for sorting 3,500 food bags at Chennai airport.

World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims

  • Every day, people all over the world are killed or injured in road traffic accidents. In fact, according to the World Health Organization, road traffic collisions are the leading cause of death among young people aged 15-29.
  • In an effort to bring awareness to this ongoing global issue, the United Nations has proclaimed November 20 as World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.

Khalid Jawed wins the 2022 JCB Prize for Literature

  • A shortlist like none other in the award’s history, which only included translation, also featured the International Booker-winning novel “Tomb of Sand” by Geetanjali Shree (translated from Hindi by Daisy Rockwell) and “Imaan” by Manoranjan Byapari (translated from the Bengali by Arunava Sinha).
  • It was also for the first time that titles in Hindi and Nepali made it to the shortlist of the literary award.
  • The shortlist also included debut books — ‘Song of the Soil” by Chuden Kabimo (translated from Nepali by Ajit Baral) and “Valli” by Sheela Tomy, (translated from Malayalam by Jayasree Kalathil).

Khalid Jawed wins the 2022 JCB Prize for Literature

Khalid Jawed’s “The Paradise of Food”, translated by Baran Farooqi from Urdu, won the fifth JCB Prize for Literature. The book, originally published as “Ne’mat Khana” in 2014, is the fourth translation to win the award and the first work in Urdu.

Govt to Set up 100 Academies to Promote Archery Amongst Tribal Children

Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Arjun Munda has said the government has decided to set up 100 archery academies in the country to promote talent amongst tribal children by nurturing their archery skills.
