The Government of India launched the Pradhan Mantri Innovative Learning Program or” DHRUV” with the help of the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development. The goal of “DHRUV” is to improve a brilliant child’s knowledge and skills while also inspiring them to reach their full potential and contribute to societal advancement.

Objectives of the DHRUV Innovative Learning Program

  • The Government of India created this initiative with the primary goal of encouraging outstanding and brilliant kids to advance their education.
  • Children will get guidance and support from mentors and subject-matter experts at every centre of excellence across the nation, helping them to reach their full potential.
  • The two main subjects that were the focus were the arts and sciences.
  • 60 children studying in grades 9 through 12 would be chosen from all throughout the nation.

Important Terms:

  • ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization): The Indian Space Research Organization, which has its main office in Bangalore, is India’s national space agency. The Executive of the Department of Space, which reports directly to the Prime Minister of India, is also the Chairman of ISRO.
  • ISTRAC (ISRO Telemetry, Tracking, and Command Network): Over time, the Indian Space Research Organization has built a vast global network of ground stations to assist satellite and launch vehicle missions with telemetry, tracking, and command.
  • NAVIC (Navigation Indian Constellation): The Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System, also known as NavIC operationally, is an autonomous regional satellite navigation system that provides precise real-time locating and timing services. It includes India and a 1,500 km radius around it, with aspirations for additional expansion.

Significance of the DHRUV program

  • The DHRUV will serve as a stage for showcasing the skills of outstanding and deserving students and assisting them in achieving success in their chosen fields, be those fields of science, the performing arts, creative writing, etc.
  • Along with reaching their full potential, these gifted children are anticipated to make significant contributions to society.
  • Students from Dhruv Tara will serve as role models for millions of kids around the nation.
  • Many of the chosen kids are anticipated to excel in their chosen fields and bring honour to their neighbourhoods, states, and countries.
  • With these types of initiatives, India will become a better destination for innovation. The country will benefit from the new inventors in order to meet its goal of a $5 trillion GDP in the allotted period.
  • Poverty won’t stand in the way of the development and success of exceptional students.

Benefits of DHRUV

The Pradhan Mantri Innovative Learning Programme was created to identify outstanding children and motivate them to advance their learning and skills. Many of the selected students are expected to excel in their chosen fields and represent their town, state, and nation with distinction. Each of the selected kids receives the moniker Dhruv Tara.

Eligibility Requirements of DHRUV

The children were primarily picked from classes 9 through 12, from both government and private schools.

Features of the DHRUV

  1. The program has the name DHRUV TARA, a pole star. The program’s major goal is to enable students to reach their full potential and make a positive contribution to society.
  2. Every student will be referred to as “DHRUV TARA” and the program will be called DHRUV (after the Pole Star). As a result, the students will shine through their accomplishments and pave the way for others to follow.
  3. In its initial stage, the program will focus on two disciplines: science and art. Later on, additional disciplines like creative writing will be added.
  4. Gifted kids will receive mentoring and nurturing from recognized authorities in various fields in centres of excellence across the nation so they can realize their full potential.

First Batch of the DHRUV Programme

  • The DHRUV program’s first round of implementation took place in October 2019.
  • In the first group of DHRUV students, 60 exceptionally gifted kids were chosen. First, two topics were covered: science and performing arts. In total, there were 60 pupils, with 30 from each region. The 60 pupils were drawn from all throughout the nation. The children were primarily picked from classes 9 through 12, from both government and private schools.
  • These pupils were given a 14-day schedule that divided the performing arts and science students into two groups.

Let’s examine the results of this amazing 14-day training session for the young “DHRUV TARAs” students under this program.

  • On October 10, 2019, the programme got underway at ISRO Bengaluru, where illustrious visitors attended. Among the attendees were the Scientific Advisor to the Prime Minister, Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma (ret. ), HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal, and ISRO Chairperson K Sivan. In Bengaluru, the students had the opportunity to see ISTRAC, NAVIC Monitoring Lab, etc.
  • The next step was a stay at IIT Delhi. The National Bal Bhawan served as their lodging. Under the direction of the IIT researchers and professionals, the students were to collaborate and come up with ideas.
  • The important assignment of brainstorming on global topics including climate change, global warming, agricultural difficulties, water conservation, etc. was given to the students.
  • According to the Ministry, each student will receive a “PM Badge” and be referred to as a “DHRUV TARA.”
  • The 60 students will be split up into 6 groups (3 groups- 10 each for Science and Performing Arts). Every Science group must complete a project under the guidance of professionals, and every Performing Arts group must choreograph a performance. Each group was given a set of global topics to research, such as terrorism, climate change, and pollution.
  • The students had the opportunity to interact with renowned scientists at IIT Delhi in addition to well-known filmmakers, directors, and the chairman of the Media & Entertainment Skills Council (MESC), Subhash Ghai, on October 14, 2019, soulful playback singer Mohit Chauhan on October 20, Sufi and Punjabi singer Hansraj Hans on October 21, and famous Indian percussionist Drums Sivamani on October 21.
  • Experts coached the science group’s students at the IIT Delhi campus, and renowned performers guided the performing arts group at the National Bal Bhavan.
  • The Science group presented their projects, the Performing Arts group performed a cultural piece, and then the pros put together a united choir of all 60 students for the valedictory event on October 23.

Selection Procedure of DHRUV

How was the student body chosen for this programme?

The Principal Scientific Advisor (PSA) served as the chair of the advisory committee that chose all 60 of the wonderful children. The committee also included representatives from the Ministry of Culture, the Department of Science and Technology, the Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog, and NCERT.

How could one be selected for this programme?

  1. The kids who were chosen are either outstanding performers in the performing arts or rank holders in other government programmes.
  2. Exams like the Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY), Olympiads, National Talent Search Examinations (NTSE), and innovation initiatives like INSPIRE, IGNITE, and the Atal Innovation Mission, among others, are encouraged, as are other contests. If you perform well on these exams, you may be chosen for the “DHRUV” programme.
  3. The intellectual and scientific ownership of the programme relating to science students has been assumed by IIT Delhi in collaboration with Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog, and professional mentors from NCERT, Sangeet Natak Akademi, SPIC-MACAY, and Centre for Cultural Resources and Training- Delhi are honing the innovative and creative skills of the Performing Arts Group.
  4. This outstanding initiative considers a broader chance for student growth in order to make the nation’s youthful population bright and productive. The programme also intends to establish Centers of Excellence across the nation where world-class specialists in many fields would foster and mentor bright kids.
  5. The goal of the DHRUV programme is to help kids realize their full potential and help millions of students across India by serving as a beacon of hope, inspiration, and a source of zeal. The government appears to be pursuing “Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat” in its purest form. Young research researchers are to be developed and trained with the goal of turning them into successful national entrepreneurs.
  6. The programme is a leadership development project. This programme was specifically created by including the many urgent topics that the students came up with, such as the state of the global climate, water conservation, and agricultural difficulties. The DHRUV programme pushed students to propose answers to the nation’s socioeconomic, political, and environmental problems in order to sharpen their inventive imaginations.
  7. This effectively created platform will close the gap between academic achievement and the professional world. One of my personal favourite takeaways from the DHRUV launch ceremony was the emphasis on giving professional quality respect to art, culture, and performance.
