Black water is a new concept that has become increasingly popular. 70% of our body is water, it is essential for our very survival. It is part of our bodily fluids like blood, saliva, etc.

Water is important for many necessary bodily functions like flushing out toxins, digestion, transportation of minerals, etc. throughout the body. Staying hydrated or ensuring that there is enough water in our body is very important and dehydration can lead to many health problems. It is obvious; therefore, that water plays a very important role in our life.

What is Black Water?

The term black water is not referred to dirty or polluted water. Black water is a term used to refer to alkaline water. Normal water has a pH of 7 which means it is neutral. Black alkaline water has a higher value on the pH scale normally between 8 and 9. It is packed with minerals such as sodium, potassium, calcium, and vitamins. It may also have fulvic acid.

Difference Between Black Water and Normal Water

  • Black water is alkaline while normal water is neutral. 
  • Black water also has more minerals and natural antioxidants; basically one can say that black water is normal water with added benefits.
  • It is more alkaline and supposedly more healthy. Many people find that drinking black water gives them a boost of energy because of the added minerals etc.
  • Most people have found that black water tastes the same as regular water but some find that it has a slightly bitter earthy taste to it initially.
  • Black water has become very popular with celebrities. and other health-conscious people. It has also been seen to have some benefits for sportspersons. 

Benefits of Black Water

Black water has been shown to have many benefits. This is one reason why it has become so popular with celebrities.

1. Hydration

Black water helps reduce blood viscosity.  This helps prevent dehydration due to exercising. A number of studies have been done to compare black water with normal water and a significant difference was found. Water itself helps in hydration but black water due to added minerals and vitamins are seen to be more effective in hydration. After exercising people are often dehydrated, black water helps the body recover more quickly from this stage and is therefore very helpful in hydration.

2. Metabolism

Alkaline water is known to help boost metabolism. This is very important for people who want to lose weight or are concerned with fitness.  The combination of minerals in black water helps boost our body’s metabolism and improves our body’s functioning. This makes us feel more active and fit. This is especially important for people like athletes.

3. Diabetes

It has been shown to have a beneficial effect on people with diabetes. Studies have shown that black water helps lower blood sugar levels. It has also been seen as being effective in lowering HbA1c. levels in a person’s blood. HbA1c is a measure of sugar levels over a longer period of time and is considered the most important marker for diabetes.

Drinking black alkaline water is linked with a lower risk for cardiovascular diseases and coronary heart disease. It is not clear exactly how this link works but studies show that people who drink black water regularly have better heart health. It is possible that this is because of the higher pH levels or because of the added minerals. It is possible that improving metabolism it helps in breathing and purifying blood and therefore helps improve heart health. However, more research is required to pinpoint the reasons.

5. Hyperacidity

The higher pH level of black water is very helpful in managing acid reflux. It reduces the activity of the enzymes responsible for acid reflux such as pepsin. The higher pH levels in black alkaline water also help in neutralizing the higher acid levels which lead to hyperacidity and acidity among many people. This helps reduce problems related to acidity and helps in improved digestion.

6. Indigestion

Alkaline water is helpful in removing toxins from the body more quickly and more effectively than normal water. It is therefore very helpful in dealing with indigestion and other related problems. It also tackles acidity which is often a root cause of indigestion.  It also helps prevent the secretion of gastric acid which can be another reason for digestive problems.

Black water has been found to be helpful in improving skin health. Drinking it on a regular basis has been shown to lead to smoother and clearer skin. This is because it helps remove toxins and improves hydration while adding minerals and vitamins to our bodies.  This is one reason why it has become so popular with celebrities. It is supposed to be especially helpful in dealing with acne.

8. Healthy Bone

It helps improve bone health by reducing bone loss. The added minerals and vitamins in black alkaline water prevent bone loss and make our bones stronger from the inside. This is important for good bone health.  Black water can therefore be very helpful in cases of osteoporosis which is a bone disease where the bones become brittle due to poor bone health. Indians are considered at a higher risk for osteoporosis.

Black water is said to have many other general health benefits. Drinking alkaline black water helps prevent ageing and increases the life span of an individual. People who drink it regularly have found that they sleep better and have faceless fatigue. Overall they feel more healthy and have faster recovery times when exercising. It s packed with anti-oxidants and minerals and is therefore helpful in revitalizing the body.

Is Black Water Safe to drink?

We must keep in mind that black water is a relatively new concept. Most research done so far shows that black water is safe to drink. The minerals and vitamins added to it are known to be good for human health. However, while most studies have shown it to be beneficial, experts say that the long-term effects of black water are still unknown.  More research, covering a longer period of time is definitely required to rule out any long-term repercussions. 

Side Effects of Blackwater

It has been seen that there can be harmful side effects of drinking black water.

  1. It can lead to confusion, nausea, and vomiting. 
  2. In animal trials, it was seen that black water can retard growth and lead to the death of cardiac cells.
  3. It can also lead to changes in urinary pH levels. Excessive consumption can also lead to altered pH levels in the body.

Price of Blackwater

In India black water sells at a retail price of approximately 100-200 rupees for 500 millilitres and is easily available on multiple online platforms.
