United Nations Day 2022

  • United Nations Day, on 24 October, marks the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter. 
  • With the ratification of this founding document by the majority of its signatories, including the five permanent members of the Security Council, the United Nations officially came into being.
  • In 1945, 50 governments gathered to draft the UN Charter. They have struggled and accomplished great feats to uphold peace, protect human rights, and play a key role in bringing international justice.
  • United Nations is “One place where the world’s nations can gather together, discuss common problems, and find shared solutions.”

World Development Information Day

  • United Nations marks October 24 as World Development Information Day.
  • This day is observed to create awareness towards the problems surrounding development in different nations and how to overcome them.
  • The United Nations (UN) believes that such information and communications technologies also have the potential to provide solutions to various development challenges and can also foster various crucial goals, especially in developing countries.

Ayodhya Deepotsav to make World Record

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi was present during the sixth Deepotsav in Ayodhya.
  • He carried out a ceremonial coronation of the Lord and inspected the Ram temple’s building.
  • The big “Deepotsav” celebrations began when the PM attended the “aarti” on the banks of the Saryu at approximately 6.30 p.m on Sunday.
  • Over 15 lakh diyas would be lit on the event, breaking its own previous world record.
  • Ayodhya Deepotsav, in the presence of Governor Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and a large crowd on Sunday at the Ram Katha Park, the holy scene of Lord Ram, Sita, and Lakshman returning to Ayodhya by a “Pushpak Viman” after 14 years of exile was recreated.
  • Ayodhya set a new Guinness World Record for burning the most earthen lamps, 15.76 lakh, on the banks of the Saryu.
  • As part of Ayodhya Deepotsav, around 18 lakh earthen lamps will be kindled on Sunday.
  • On the occasion of Ayodhya Deepotsav more than 22,000 volunteers will light over 15 lakh earthen lights at Ram ki Paudi on the Saryu bank.
  • Volunteers were instructed to place 256 earthen lanterns in each square, with a two to three foot gap between each square.
  • Fireworks, a 3D projection mapping extravaganza, and a musical laser show will also be present.
  • During the Ayodhya Deepotsav, 11 Ramlila tableaux exhibiting dance styles from various states were presented, along with five animated tableaus.
  • Lord Ram, Goddess Sita, Lord Lakshman, and Lord Hanuman depicted at the Ram Katha Park coming down from a “pushpak vimana.”
  • On this day, an aarti of the Saryu river was conducted.

  • A dedicated playground for specially-abled children is opening for the first time in the city at the popular sea-facing Joggers Park in Bandra West.
  • Around 9,000 square feet of space in the park, which attracts citizens from all over Mumbai-is reserved for the differently-abled with rides and other play equipment. These include wheelchair swings, arm movers, play boards etc.

  • Scientists have found that the Moon is moving away from the Earth by 3.8 cm every year, which is likely to cause changes in climate, a phenomenon that has been going on for billions of years.
  • Scientists have discovered that when the moon appeared, it was closest to the earth at a distance of 14 thousand miles and now it is 250 thousand miles away from the earth.

Pneumonia microbes were Discovered on the space station

  • Chennai IIT and America’s ‘NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory have jointly studied the interaction between microorganisms in the International Space Station and has been found Klebsiella pneumonia microbe.
  • There is no fear about the microbes found in space and also the study was helpful in learning how microbes in space adapt to microgravity.

Asian Youth Chess Championship 2022

  • In the Asian Youth Chess Championship held in Indonesia, India’s Madhvendra Pratap Sharma won a total of six Gold medals combining both individual and team, one each in three formats – Classical, Rapid and Blitz.
  • Charvi won five Gold and one Silver, Bhagyashree earned three Gold and Ethan two Gold, two Silver and one Bronze.
  • India wins 46 medals at Asian Youth Chess Championships 2022.
