World AIDS Day

  • World AIDS Day is observed on 1 December every year to raise awareness and knowledge about HIV and a call to move toward ending the HIV epidemic.
  • It was first celebrated in 1988. The theme of 2019 is “Ending the HIV/AIDS Epidemic: Community by Community”.
  • And according to UNAIDS, the theme of this year is “Communities make a difference”.

International Lusophone Festival 2022

  • The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in partnership with the Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR) and the Government of Goa is organizing the International Lusophone Festival in Goa from 03-06 December 2022.
  • The Lusophone world is a country that speaks Portuguese as its official language and is colonized by Portugal.
  • Goa has had historical linkages with the Lusophone world.
  • This has been nurtured through the presence of Portuguese cultural institutions.

23rd Hornbill Festival 2022

  • Nagaland is set to host the 23rd Hornbill Festival 2022 at Naga Heritage Village Kisama from December 1 to 10.
  • Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar will grace the inaugural function of the festival as the Chief Guest.
  • The Festival includes the Traditional Naga Morungs Exhibition and sale of Arts and Crafts, Food Stalls, Herbal Medicine Stalls, Flower and sales, Cultural Medley – songs and dances, Fashion shows, a Beauty Contest, Traditional Archery, Naga wrestling, Indigenous Games, Musical concert.

Mylab launches kit for detecting TB

  • A single test that will detect tuberculosis and multidrug-resistant tuberculosis was launched on 30 November 2022 by Pune-based Mylab Discovery Solutions private limited.
  • The kit has been named PathoDetect MTB RIF and INH drug resistance kit. The kit is an RT-PCR-based kit for accurate detection and will be used with Mylab Compact device systems – which will allow automated testing of multiple samples within two hours.
  • “This will be instrumental in supporting the country’s goal to eliminate TB by 2025 from India”.

Government Schools Provide Students With Free Uniforms and Milk in Rajasthan    

  • Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot virtually launched the Mukhyamantri Bal Gopal Yojana and the Mukhyamantri Free Uniform Yojana scheme in Rajasthan.
  • Under this scheme Children in Rajasthan’s government schools from Class 1 to 8 will receive free school uniforms and milk made from milk powder, “Funds worth Rs 476 crore have been sanctioned for this scheme.”

48,500 years old Zombie virus was discovered

  • Scientists from Europe have found about 12 viruses under glaciers in Serbia.
  • These new viruses have been discovered in this lake that has been frozen for thousands of years due to climate change.
  • And one of the most notable among them was the discovery of a 48,500-year-old zombie virus.
  • A zombie virus is a single-celled amoeba virus that dates back approximately 50,000 years.
  • Studies have not yet determined whether this virus can affect humans.

Best Tech Initiative Award 2022

  • The Manthan platform won NSEIT the Best Tech Initiative of the Year at the Dun & Bradstreet Business Excellence Awards 2022 on 29th November 2022 during an event in Mumbai, the award was presented for building the technology infrastructure to support the Manthan platform.
  • Dr. Sapna Poti, Director of the Strategic Alliances Division, Office of Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA), received the award from the Government of India and Shri. Anantharaman Sreenivasan, MD & CEO, NSEIT.

Niti Aayog launches CCUS policy framework and its deployment mechanism in India

  • Niti Aayog today launched the carbon capture utilization and storage (CCUS) policy framework and its Deployment Mechanism in India.
  • The purpose of the CCUS policy framework is to develop and implement a practicable framework to accelerate research and development on carbon capture, utilization and storage in India.
  • CCUS has an important and critical role to play for India to achieve net zero by 2070, the report was prepared on the valuable inputs provided by the various stakeholders from the Energy and Power Sector (E&P).

South Korea’s Mina Sue Choi Crowned Miss Earth 2022

  • The new queen inherited the title from Destiny Wagner, who was the first woman from Belize to capture a major international crown.
  • Destiny Wagner won in a virtual competition conducted in 2021.
  • Elements queens were crowned at the culmination of the completion.
  • The Philippines’ representative, Filipino-America Psychology student Jenny Ramp from the province of Tarlac, finished in the Top 20.
  • She was also proclaimed the best in Fauna Costume for Asia and Oceania.

Artificial photosynthetic system to capture solar energy

  • Researchers from IISER-Thiruvananthapuram and IIT-Indore have developed a new artificial light-harvesting system that can efficiently capture light for power conversion by mimicking photosynthesis, the process by which plants absorb sunlight and produce sugars.
  • To mimic photosynthesis, polymeric structures, detergent-type molecules and vesicles have all been used.

Union Minister R.K Singh inaugurated ‘Doctor Apke Dwar’ Mobile Health Clinics

  • Union Minister of Power and New & Renewable Energy, R.K. Singh inaugurated REC’s CSR initiative for procurement, operation and maintenance of 10 Mobile Health Clinics (MHC) ‘Doctor Apke Dwar’ at Sadar Hospital, Aarah, Bhojpur District Bihar.
  • The project aims to facilitate operational expenditure for three years for smooth functioning.
